Living By Other People’s Standards

I’m exhausted sometimes of trying to live by other people’s standards, the ways they think I should live, do, and feel. There’s an old proverb about a man who when young took all the criticism and judgement of himself to heart, thinking life was a game of who was faster or better or smarter. Then once he was old, realized life wasn’t a game at all, but a dream and that all those voices never mattered because they never existed to begin with.

Random people care less about the things you do with yourself or life than you realize. Because to them, you don’t matter. At the end of the line, the end of a lifetime. And it’s not sad or disheartening. In fact, it should only embolden you to be yourself and live the life you dream of.
